How to Maintain Top Hygiene Levels in Hostels – Stop the Spread of the Coronavirus

A must to have in times like this…

Stop the spread of the Coronavirus at your property!

As the coronavirus continues to spread, everyone is ramping up their personal hygiene practices in an effort to bring an end to its destruction. Hostels have always been a place to meet others, socialize, co-live and experience a place with fellow travelers. In the current situation, this social living calls for added precautions.

In an effort to safeguard our own guests from any infectious diseases and stop the spread of the coronavirus, Easy Housing Hostel has always maintained a high level of cleanliness. We offer each visitor a clean bed, with fresh neatly pressed white linen straight from one of the top laundry suppliers in Prague; cleaning involves using a high-pressure steam cleaner (that reached 300°C) on everything – bathrooms, showers, toilets, common areas, kitchen, rooms, beds as well as mattresses; we also regularly disinfect all our hostel’s equipment, doorknobs, door frames, surfaces and other areas that could be touched by guests.

Few methods to stop the spread of the coronavirus…

These are but a few methods we have put in place to ensure the health and safety of our guests and staff. To find out what else we are doing, what all hostels should be doing to maintain TOP hygiene levels in their hostels and stop the spread of the coronavirus, or any virus in that matter, and what you can do to help – continue reading.

The following hygiene practices are recommended by the WHO even in areas where cases of COVID19 haven’t been reported – if your hostel isn’t complying ask them why and consider moving:

General cleanliness:

  • Hostels need to be clean and hygienic at all times
  • All surfaces such as the front desk and tables, as well as any objects e.g. telephones, and kettles need to be wiped with disinfectant regularly

One of the main ways the coronavirus is spread is through contaminated surfaces. In order to stop the spread of the coronavirus in your Hostel you can protect yourself and your guests by washing your hands regularly and using disinfectant when you don’t have access to soap and water. It is important to wash hands for at least 20 seconds in order the washing to be efficient in dissolving the protein cover of the virus.

Personal hygiene:

  • Hostels have a responsibility towards their staff and visitors. Your hostel should be promoting regular and thorough hand-washing by both employees, and customers.

At Easy Housing we encourage healthy habits by having Alcohol hand sanitizer readily available at no cost to our clients or staff. We also have designated areas in the hostel where we share relevant information on personal hygiene.

We also encourage our guests not to share hand towels or leave their personal items in the bathrooms or toilets.

Washing hands thoroughly for at least 20 sec…

Promote good respiratory hygiene:

  • Promote good respiratory either through posters or demonstration to new visitors
  • Hostels should try to have face masks and/or paper tissues available for those who need it

At Easy Housing we encourage our visitors to cough in the fold of their arm, or into a tissue. For those who need to travel, we try to offer surgical masks, hand-made 😊, based on request and availability.

In any establishment, anyone showing any symptoms needs to be isolated immediately and the relevant health authorities notified. At Easy Housing we have Thermometers available for guests to self-check. Only this way we will be able to stop further the spread of the coronavirus in accommodation establishments and Hostels.

Finally, it is important that the hostel is well ventilated, free from damp and displays an overall effort to maintain high level of hygiene standards and keep everyone who visits safe.
